An exhibition of works by Turkmen artists that opened ahead of Constitution and State Flag Day is currently on view at the capital’s Exhibition Center.

Its centerpiece is a famous painting by Valentin Kudryashov that depicts a teenage girl holding a tray with sweet fruits, the bounties of fertile Turkmen land, against a backdrop of the State Flag of Turkmenistan. The painting, which has a distinctive characteristic – pag-es of a tear-off calendar falling to the floor, harmoniously combines the poster style and Symbolism.

This also holds true for Valentin Kudryashov’s other works ‘Galkynysh’ and ‘Dabara’, which are currently on exhibition as well. They perfectly capture the true spirit and flavor of national celebrations.

The exhibition also features Natalia Kalugina’s poetically scenic landscapes, ‘Places Associated with Magtymguly’ and ‘The Village of Gerkez’, dedicated to the great Turkmen poet and thinker.

Byrdysakhet Gurbansakhetov’s ‘Landscape’ is a big draw for visitors. The mon-ochrome nocturne painting is rich in artistic associations. The moonlight softly gleaming on the velvety mirror-smooth surface of a river adds a touch of exquisite lyricism.

Academy of Arts recent graduate Kurban Babatchev presents three works that could be regarded as a triptych. The central painting shows a scene from the destan ‘Yusup and Akhmed’: a vast army of soldiers is crossing the Kopetdag Mountains. The other two entitled ‘Hunting Season’ and ‘The Karakum Desert’ are landscapes. They clearly accent the metaphorical meaning and the artist’s original signature style.

Another highlight of the exhibition is Honored Art Worker of Turkmenistan Mered Klychev’s triptych ‘The Sumbar River’. Finely executed in the technique of dot painting of-ten used by the artist, the work shows three “moods” of the river surrounded by the scenic beauty of the legendary valley in cheerful and vibrant hues.

A painting of a bouquet of five sunflowers by Annajakhan Garajaeva brings joy and gives a life-enhancing and mood-boosting sense. Annajakhan’s poetic sunflowers de-picted against blue skies are seen as the metaphor of our times – the epoch of creation and peace.
