The Maya Kulieva Turkmen National Music Conservatory’s Big Hall has played host to a solo piano recital by Kadyr Dolyev, a Conservatory alumnus mentored by Honored Artist of Turkmenistan Vladimir Mkrtumov. The performance proved a big success.

While still in early stages of organization, the concert promised to be an outstanding event thanks to the star performers: People’s Artists of Turkmenistan Atageldy Garyagdyev (who has been dubbed the golden baritone), renowned violinist and Kadyr’s older brother, Bakhram Dolyev, the Chamber Orchestra under Takhir Ataev, and Kadyr’s mentor - maestro Vladimir Mkrtrumov.

The recital opened with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 for Piano and Orchestra played by Kadyr Dolyev and the Orchestra conducted by Takhir Ataev. The soaring music by the Austrian genius was a real treat for the audience.

A performance of Frederic Chopin’s wonderfully poetic ‘Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante’ by the two pianists drew a round of enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

Kadyr and Bakhram Dolyev presented the ‘Meditation’ from the opera ‘Thais’ by Jules Massenet. The lyrical and romantically expressive piece with the charm of the violin and tender sounds of the piano filled the air.

Then, Kadyr performed solo Franz Liszt’s ‘Rhapsodie Espagnole’ (Spanish Rhapsody) known for its distinctive series of variations and sudden changes in the character of music and the tempo. The pianist perfectly conveyed the emotional depth of the Hungarian composer’s composition. It was fascinating to watch Vladimir Mkrtumov (who was sitting among members of the audience) making intrinsic sound-producing gestures and playing air piano to the piece of music...

Ata Garyagdyev captivated and thrilled the hearts of his listeners singing songs with music by Nury Khalmamedov and Dangatar Khydyrov. Kadyr Dolyev accompanied the accomplished singer on the piano.

After the thunderous applause died out, the musicians talked with Kadyr’s fellow professionals and relatives, who had come to support the young pianist. Kind well-wishes, congratulations, smiles, selfies, flowers... But the highest praise for Kadyr was Vladimir Mkrtumov’s approval of his performance. The young pianist devoted his first big success to his mentor.
