The Turkmen National Conservatory’s Big Hall has hosted a concert to mark the 75th birthday of People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly State Prize winner, illustrious composer Rejep Jumaevich Rejepov. The evening of music, which was a big success, featured the celebrated composer’s works performed by the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan under Rasul Klychev, the State Choir, the Conservatory Choir, and the best vocalists.

The concert program included three movements of the Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra, the composition, which could be regarded as the pinnacle of composing career in any country of the world. Oboist of the Symphony Orchestra Didar Yumudov performed solo.

Rejep Rejepov’s two orchestral pieces, The Children’s Suite and The Suite in the Old Style, were performed for the first time. They received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the audience, made up of the maestro’s numerous fans, his friends and students.

Performed at the concert, the music from a movie entitled ‘Jemal’s Tree’ was a real treat. It was deeply moving and soulful. Film music is the field where Rejep Rejepov has excelled like no other Turkmen composer. It is even hard to imagine that he has composed music to 59 films!

He is also a brilliant songwriter. His popular songs are sung by People’s Artists of Turkmenistan Atageldy Garyagdyev, Atajan Berdyev, Sukhan Orazberdyev, and Honored Artist Guzel Ovezova...

The concert ended on a memorable note when the composer walked onstage to thank all those who had organized the concert and those who had come to share this special and joyous occasion with him. He also made an announcement that he dedicated The Suite in the Old Style to the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Rasul Klychev.

The audience greeted the news with thunderous applause.

– I am deeply honored and grateful to Rejep Jumaevich to be dedicated the composition. I was his student, and he mentored me in conducting and orchestration, Rasul Klychev shared his impressions with readers of our electronic newspaper. Despite our age difference, we have always been kindred souls. Not only do I highly value Rejep Jumaevich for his composing talent and professionalism, but I also treasure his personal qualities – he is a very kind-hearted man. I am proud and happy to have such a wonderful friend and mentor, who has greatly enriched the music of Turkmenistan by his magnificent works.
