On December 12, the Mukam Palace of the State Cultural Center hosted a festive concert given by accomplished artists to celebrate International Neutrality Day and the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

The State Concert featured performances by popular vocalists and musicians, famous dance and folk ensembles of the country, and young talents that celebrated and glorified the neutral Motherland.

The concert opened with a literary and musical piece called “ARKADAGYM TOÝ TUTÝAR, TOÝMUZA GEL, TOÝMUZA!” which powerfully demonstrated the people’s true love and admiration for their national hero – Arkadag.

The festive event that began on the high note continued with original performances. Each of them invited comparison with mini theatrical productions. Devoted to the neutral Motherland, the concert itself was reminiscent of an original journey across the countries and continents with music evoking memories.

Sung in different languages, iconic songs, the real gems of the world’s classics, filled the magnificent hall. The concert program also included dances from around the world. Members of the dance ensembles were dressed in national costumes of the country, whose traditional dance they performed. Displayed on a large video screen, visuals featuring wonderful scenic views, and landmarks of different cities lent an extra charge and added a distinct emotional dimension to the festive event.

The rousing Russian quadrille, a lyrical Kazakh folk song about beautiful girls, a popular Tajik song called “Anor-Anor”, an Azerbaijani folk song and a modern Uzbek song were performed onstage. A Belarus folk song named “Kuma-Kuma” full of subtle humor was instantly followed by a humorous Ukrainian song called “You Have Lied to Me”. Turkmen singers performed song about love in the Turkish, Kyrgyz and Armenian languages.

The State Dance Ensemble and a folk group gave a dazzling performance entitled “PARAHATLYK ŞUGLASY” that included lively and stirring dances: the Lezginka, a Moldovan dance, the Hopak, and the Polka.

“Melodies of the Far East” that featured Japanese, Korean and Chinese songs created a special atmosphere during the concert.

An original musical potpourri titled “Melodies of Friendship and Brotherhood” presented Iranian, Afghan, Pakistani and Arab melodies. An Indian dance performed onstage conjured up memories of famous Bollywood movies.

In their impressive songs and dances talented performers told about a wealth of rich and unique traditions of the peoples who lived in the countries the Silk Road passed through. Thanks to the initiatives by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Silk Road has been now given a new lease of life through international economic and cultural projects.

The festive concert’s notable highlights were European classical music and pop music treasures. Young violinists of the Mukam Ensemble brilliantly performed Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance”. The concert also featured “Funiculi, Funicula”, French and Spanish songs, the song “You’re My Destiny” in English by Dieter Bohlen, the founder of the pop duo Modern Talking. The temperamental dance was accompanied by Latin American guitar music.

The program’s European part concluded with “ÝEWROPANYŇ ÝALKYMY” performed by popular singers and students of the capital’s music institutions.

And, of course, Turkmen folk melodies and songs were a welcome addition to the wonderful music event. Back in the past, no celebration was complete without the ancient dance Kushtdepdi. Performed at the concert, the dance gave a sense of unbroken continuity between epochs and generations, the past and the present, and highlighted the enduring importance of the Turkmen nation’s rich spiritual heritage.

Sung by singers, the Maya Kulieva Turkmen National Conservatory Choir and all the event participants, a patriotic song called “ARKADAGLY ÝURDUM BAKY BITARAP” provided a grand and dramatic finale to the State Concert in honor of International Neutrality Day and the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.
