This year has been successful for farmers of the country’s northern region. Thanks to the timely completion of all necessary agricultural work, the production targets have been met for principal field crops, such as cotton, wheat, rice, potatoes, onions, and others. The local agri-producers gained valuable practical experience in growing undersown crops in large areas and some crops planted in late autumn. Mung beans and white kidney beans were planted and grown in the Dashoguz region for the first time as catch crops after winter wheat. The planted areas under mung beans and white kidney beans were 3, 700 hectares and 250 hectares respectively. Sesame seeds were also widely grown in the region this year. The state-initiated efforts have helped to boost agricultural production considerably in Dashoguz Velayat. For instance, the region produced 5,500-plus tons of mung beans, 350-plus tons of sesame seeds, and 100-plus tons of white kidney beans. Apart from 56,000 tons of spring-planted potatoes, autumn-sown potato crops were harvested on 1,100 hectares. Special mention must be made of winter onions planted in the region for the first time. The total land area under onion cultivation is 1,000 hectares.
The region plans to increase the production of agricultural products through sustainable farmland and water resources management efforts, the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and active engagement of private producers in the sector. The Special Land Fund established in the country contributes significantly to this.
