President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held tripartite talks in Ashgabat. The leaders of the two neighbouring countries arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the celebrations in honour of the International Day of Nowruz.
The agenda of the tripartite summit focused on the issues relating to promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation in the important and promising sphere, such as the transport and communications sectors.
During the talks the sides reached relevant agreements and signed the important document - the Memorandum of Understanding between Turkmenistan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Tajikistan for the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway.
The sides were unanimous that the implementation of the ambitious project would contribute to strengthening the ties of friendship and fruitful cooperation between the three neighbouring countries as well as developing diversified transportation infrastructure meeting modern realities on regional and international scale.
