Water resources - aspect of cooperation

The roundtable on the Water Management System in Turkmenistan organized by the Ministry of Water Industry of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkmenistan took place in the Turkmen capital. The international forum brought together specialists of the agricultural, water, nature protection and communal ministries and departments facilities and Ashgabat and Ahal Velayat khyakimliks in the conference hall of the Oguzkent Hotel.

The Korean delegation consisting of the top managers and specialists of state-run institutions and research centres specializing in environmental industry and technologies, including the Korea Environment Corporation (KECO), the KOLON Group of Companies, Dong Ho Co. Ltd. and others participated in the forum.

The main aim of the meeting was to exchange the national experiences in designing and establishing the integrated water resources management systems and developing necessary infrastructure to prevent climate change.

Welcoming the participants Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan Mr. Myung Soo Ahn underscored the high dynamics and effectiveness of Turkmen-Korean cooperation that had the tremendous potential in a wide spectrum of fields, particularly in such strategic areas as water use and management. Noting that the Korean scientific and business circles were keenly interested in promoting mutually beneficial partnership with Turkmenistan to develop and apply effective innovations, the diplomat cited the joint project of the treating pond in Sahra settlement in Ahal Velayat as an example of fruitful collaboration.

Highly evaluating Turkmenistan’s achievements in tackling environmental and water security issues and increasing the quality and standards of life of citizens, Mr. Myung Soo Ahn expressed belief that the expert meeting would offer a powerful incentive to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries and facilitate an exchange of experiences and technologies and the implementation of new projects.

The overviews of the national water resources management and water efficiency policies spotlighting such issues as expansion of drinking water production infrastructure, water supply, water recycling and maintenance of ecological balance in this sphere were presented during the roundtable. The meeting participants considered possible fields for long-term bilateral partnership.
