On September 4, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of China Xi Jinping visited Mary Velayat, where they attended the ceremony of putting a gas treatment plant into operation in Galkynysh gas field.
The development of the giant natural gas deposit – Galkynysh – was launched in December 2009. The results of an independent audit conducted by the world-renowned consultant – the Gaffney, Cline & Associates firm (UK) have become a sensation. According to preliminary expert estimates, Galkynysh gad field (formerly known as Southern Yoloten-Osman) contains about 26.2 trillion cubic metres which enables Turkmenistan to rank fourth in the world in gas reserves. Moreover, the field is rich in oil.
The complex of facilities which produces 30 billion cubic metres of tank gas per year were built in the gas field at the first stage of project implemented by the Turkmengaz State Concern together with the foreign partners, including the major companies from the People's Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea. A total of US$30 billion investment is committed to implementing the project.
The presentation of the layouts and production capacity of the plants was made for the leaders of Turkmenistan and China, who had arrived in the territory of the first of three gas treatment plants to be put into operation in Galkynysh field.
The complex of facilities designed to produce 10 billion cubic metres of tank gas per year vividly evidence effective relations between Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China. 22 wells, the daily production rate of each of which is 1.5-2 million cubic metres of ‘blue fuel’ were drilled, 2 gas processing units and head works , including the gas treatment plants supplied with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, were build in the framework of the project. The industrial complex includes a sulphur granulation and packaging unit with the estimated capacity of 800,000 tons per year.
By pushing the button, the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the People’s Republic of China put the gas processing plant into operation.
Then the two leaders arrived at the industrial facility with the estimated capacity of 20 billion cubic metres of tank gas per year. Another exciting moment came. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of China Xi Jinping headed to the control panel and pulled the lever, putting the first and second sections of head works into operation. The ceremony participants could see the first cubic metres of ‘blue fuel’ flowing from industrial facilities to the gas transport system.
Thus, the world’s largest gas field – Galkynysh – was put into commercial operation.President of the People’s Republic of China China Xi Jinping finished the state visit to Turkmenistan and left Mary.
