Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

An enlarged meeting involving the high-ranking officials and specialists of the Central Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices of Turkmenistan in foreign countries took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting participants ardently welcomed the unanimous decision of public organisations and political parties to nominate the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as a candidate for the presidential election which would be held on February 12, 2012 and expressed support for the Turkmen leader’s candidacy.

The immense prestige and talent of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as a statesman and political figure enabled to implement the ambitious programmes aimed at developing and modernizing the national economic, improving the people’s welfare, building the institutions of genuine sovereignty of the people and strengthening further the democratic foundations of the social life in a short period of time.

The Turkmen leader’s national domestic and foreign policy based on the centuries-old principles of peacefulness, humanity and good neighbourliness of the Turkmen people has been welcomed by the world community. Turkmenistan’s role as a dependable partner and universally recognized peace-making centre is enhanced with every passing year.

Touching upon the outstanding initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the meeting participants mentioned the development and adoption of the Constitution and laws aimed at protecting and promoting the rights and freedoms of citizens, including the right to vote as a fundamental one.

In this context the heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices in foreign countries reported on the work carried out in the framework of the election campaign to open and manage polling stations at embassies, consular offices and permanent representations of Turkmenistan.

It was reported that to date 29 polling stations had been opened abroad and the list of voters who permanently and temporarily reside in foreign countries and have the constitutional right to vote had been compiled.

Summing up the meeting, Turkmen diplomats reaffirmed that they stood ready to hold the presidential election in a timely and proper manner in compliance with national laws and standards of international law.
