It is natural that for Turkmen people this year has a special meaning. Indeed, from time immemorial Turkmens had created a cult of horse as a loyal and reliable companion in its centuries-old way of historical development. Therefore, it is not accidental that in the central part of the National Emblem of Turkmenistan on the blue background a wonderful gold yellow Akhalteke horse Yanardag is depicted.

The racer, which has become a symbol of our country, was born in 1991. From the first days of birth of the foal, it was clear for horse breeders that the eminent parents — stallion Yalkymly (Effulgent) and mare Dabaraly (Stately) have given birth to a unique creature of rare beauty.

Turkmenistan is not only country of the world depicting a horse in the centre of the National Emblem but here already for several years among all national holidays a special significance is attached to the holiday of a Turkmen racer to which an international conference is timed and it brings together specialists and horse breeders of Akhalteke horses from all countries of the world. Now a monument with sculpture of Yanardag is erected in the capital city.

What do we know of this celebrated racer? The tradition of giving poetical and lofty names to horses by Turkmens has been followed this time as well. Besides it, another condition has been also observed, as it is necessary to give the name of the foal. Its name should have begun with the same letter, which bears its father’s name, and the first letter of its mother’s name. So, the name of Yanardag, Flaming Mountain, has appeared in the pedigree list of one of the eminent lines of the Akhalteke horse.

The Yanardag possesses an original gold yellow sorrel tint typical of an Akhalteke racer with a wonderful posture and grandiose gait. Movement of the Yanardag is swift and light. When saddled it easily darts off. It was recognized champion in the beauty show of Akhalteke horses in 1998, 1999, 2000 in Ashgabat. In 1999 in the world show of Akhalteke horses in Moscow it became a world champion of the same breed. From the age 2 to 9 in the large horseraces, it repeatedly took prize places.

Akhalteke horses – really a great achievement of the Turkmen nation. In the course of the entire history of the nation, they have always remained loyal servants and companions of their owners. In the vast steppes and plains nature itself has created wonderful conditions for origination and breeding of argamaks and it was there a famous epic Gőrogly came into light. The main character of this wonderful work, which has entered the golden fund of world literature, possessed the fabulous horse named Gyrat, which in translation means a “grey horse». This horse looked like a thunderstorm and galloped like “a bird flying in the air”. It was a symbol of honour and a companion of victory and success for its owner. A legendary hero and brave Gőrogly beg Turkmen rode it for many years defending his sacred land and independent country.

On May 9, 2010 the entire world saw a legendary horse again as if it came out from the pages of the national epic. It was on this significant date a horse of noble birth named Gyrat from the horse stud of the President headed a Turkmen military company and participated in the march on the red Square in Moscow becoming one of the symbols of the great victory over fascism. Neither sounds of the combined orchestra nor rattles of jackboots scared it.

Probably it is not surprising: indeed, Gyrat –a direct offspring of the Akhalteke stallion Arap, which the marshal Georgiy Zhukov held a review of the parade of victory on June 24, 1945. «The great-great-grandfather» of Gyrat- Arap was famous not only for its participation in the historical parade in 1945, but also for its numerous records for high speed and high jumping in the course of its “career”. From the horse Arab the repeated champion of the Union and the best sporting horse of the XX century, Absent came into light and in 1960 in the Olympic Games in Rome S. Filatov rode it and took a gold medal. In 1968, outstanding experts of equestrian sports and horse breeders gave Absent the title of the best sporting horse of the world.

It is commonly known that in 1956 the Soviet government presented her majesty, Queen Elisabeth of the United Kingdom with gold yellow and sorrel Akhalteke horse called Melegush. According to recognition of one of the great English experts of horses of the royal court, General Walter Seyle, Melegush was a jewel of the royal stud and as he noted he had never seen such wonderful racer before.

And today we can state that Akhalteke horses have preserved their uniqueness, qualities: typical yellow gold tint, wonderful and fine conformation, light, swift ride, boundless energy and force.
