The Central Commission for Election and Referenda held a regular meeting in the framework of the nomination campaign. The members of the Central Commission and the Central Office of the Central Commission, national observers and journalists participated in the meeting.
The main agenda item was the registration of presidential candidates who had been nominated by the public associations and candidates’ organisations. On January 3, current head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was registered as candidate in the 2012 presidential election. The Turkmen leader visited the Central Commission for Election and Referenda of Turkmenistan in the early morning.
As is known, the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Council of Trade Council, Magtymguly Youth Organisation, the War Veterans’ Organisation and the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan nominated the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as candidate in the 2012 presidential election on their meeting in December this year. After the Chairman of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda read out the Resolution on the nomination of current President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the presidential election which would be held on February 12, 2012, he presented the certificate to the leader of the Turkmen state.
After the registration procedure was concluded, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov saw the conditions created for the effective activity of this important institution.
In particular, the Turkmen leader reviewed the materials containing the informational the preparations for and organisation of the election, the instructions for filling in and registration of documents, certificate templates for local and foreign observers and journalists, ballot-boxes for stationary and early voting and voting at home. A big display on which the figures and information on the voting process at polling stations in regions will be shown drew the attention of the Turkmen leader. Talking to the Central Commission members, the President emphasized that the information from the regions should be handled in a timely manner and the election should be covered by the mass media.
Then the Turkmen leader left the of the Central Commission building.
The Central Commission members also considered a number of the organizational issues related to the 2012 presidential elections during the meeting. It was noted that the necessary measures were being taken to ensure that this important political campaign which would be a critical step towards democratization of the Turkmen society advancing along the path of progress and progressive changes would be held in a proper and timely manner.
