Exhibition “Magic of Horst Janssen” was opened at the State Fine Arts Museum of Turkmenistan. Creative heritage of famous German artist includes over four thousand etchings, numerous pictures, xylographs and lithographs, which excite today the interest of visitors of the largest museums of the world. Collection from more than fifty works for exposition in Ashgabat was presented by the friend of the artist, collector and publisher Tete Bettger.
As Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany in Turkmenistan Wolfgang Brett noted at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the productions of Horst Janssen – acknowledged “genius of the century” in the German and world graphic art – demonstrate the realty through fantastic world of visions. Art of the artist, touching upon inmost recesses of human heart, as if has magic power, making the hidden visible.
In opinion of art historians, the originality of creativity of Janssen consists, first of all, in intent scrutinizing of a subject. Therefore, his works differ with amazing expressiveness. For example, these are offset lithographs “Woman's shoe”, “Valley of Elba”, “Rider in steppe”, where whole attention is concentrated on main object, and representation of background has been minimized. World of fanciful fantastic images are opened in etchings of the artist “Nave of wheel as fancy landscape”, “Figures on the rock with self-portrait”, “Sailer”, in lithograph “Small man” and others.
Particular place in the creativity of Horst Janssen is given to portrait graphic art – expressive works, reflecting not only appearance, but also internal content of human being, his characteristic features. In the gallery of portraits of the German artist, there are poets and writers of worldwide reputation Heinrich Heine and Wolfgang Goethe, N.V. Gogol and A.S. Pushkin, famous dramatists Henry Ibsen and Berthold Brecht, outstanding state figures and famous masters of fine arts.
Exhibition was held within the framework of the festival “German spring-2015”, which was organized in Ashgabat by the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in Turkmenistan with assistance of the Ministry of Culture of our country. The festival familiarizes the residents of Ashgabat and guests of the capital with the art of the German people. Within the framework of a large festival program, it is held the events covering such spheres as music and movie, painting and theater.
