A meeting dedicated to the Diplomats Day was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting brought together the heads and officials of the foreign ministry, Turkmen diplomats, specialists of the Institute of International Relations of the MFA and other departments concerned and journalists.

The address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulating Turkmen diplomats on their professional holiday was presented at the meeting.

In his address the Turkmen leader emphasized foreign policy doctrine of our state and particularly its fundamental principles to tackle global and regional problems by peaceful, political and diplomatic means were aimed at ensuring wellbeing and security of the modern world, friendly relations between states and nations and mutual enrichment of cultures. The tasks to enhance cooperation in this sphere and concert efforts and the lofty aims required optimization of the diplomatic activity and the strengthening of our country’ stand in the geopolitical and geoeconomic space, primarily on international cooperation for boosting world and regional economy, achievement of energy security and preventing and effective responses to threats and challenges of the modern world.

The issues regarding the fulfilment of these tasks were put on the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on the critical lines of development of multilateral diplomacy and the promising fields of long-term cooperation with the major international organisations, including the United Nations, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the European Union among other authoritative international structures.

The short-term action plans in the framework of the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2012 and the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), the nomination of Turkmenistan for the membership in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2013-2015 were considered.

The reports provided the evaluation of the current state of foreign political relations and multilateral interstate contacts of Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that due to its tremendous economic potential, the rich history and culture and the strong political will Turkmenistan’s role as a key participant in multiformat relations in finding optimal solutions to global problems was increasing today.

It was also emphasized that the unity of the people and state and consolidation of the society served as a fundamental condition for the triumph of the Turkmen leader’s foreign policy aimed at strengthening regional stability and security, responding to modern challenges, promoting economic cooperation and energy partnership, scientific and cultural cooperation and facilitating trade and investment activity.

It was stated that in recent years Turkmenistan had made substantial progress in developing the social and economic spheres, increasing the standards of living of citizens and promoting a market economy which had contributed to enhancing its international prestige and had a positive impact on the content of international cooperation of the Turkmen state with members of the international community, particularly with close neighbours and countries in the region and interested parties in other continents.

The recent major foreign-political activities and events showed that Turkmenistan properly and effectively used foreign policy instruments to achieve its national goals and sustainable development.
