The opening ceremony of Turkmenin Ak Oyi (White Yurt) took place in Mary, where cultural and art workers from Turkic-speaking countries performed a concert, marking the status of the Turkmen city as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015. Musicians devoted their concert to the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, widely and solemnly celebrated in our country and abroad.

Heads and representatives of the International Organization of Turkic Culture and the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States and the artistic delegations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Tatarstan (Russian Federation) arrived in the city of the Murghab River to participate in the closing events.

The gorgeous building of Turkmenin Ak Oyi has 35 metres in height and 70 metres in diameter. Its design resembles the lattice of traditional Turkmen yurts.

The honorary right to open Turkmenin Ak Oyi and cut the ribbon was given to the elders, representing all five regions of Turkmenistan and Ashgabat.

The celebrations continued in the magnificent concert hall, where numerous ceremony participants, including the Chairperson of Mejlis, cabinet ministers, heads and specialists of military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, diplomatic missions and representative offices accredited to Turkmenistan, public organisations, research centres, higher educational institutions, the elders from all the regions and the city capital of Turkmenistan, cultural and art workers and Turkmen and foreign media representatives had gathered together.

The bright show took place on the magnificent stage of the White Yurt. The literary and musical performance entitled Along the Road of the Oguz became some kind of overture to the big concert. Its programme included folk melodies and songs, bright dance performances and dramatized sketches, featuring unique customs and traditions of the Turkic-speaking peoples passed down through centuries and cherished today.

The audience applauded the renowned folk music group from Tatarstan and the Turk Dunyasi ensemble from Turkey for their masterly performance. The Symbat dance group from Kyrgyzstan and singers from the Atai folk group at T. Satylganov State Philharmonic of the Kyrgyz Republic presented an incendiary song and dance performance.

The sparkling performance of Turkmen horsemen from the renowned Galkynysh group of equestrian sports games caused a storm of emotions. The beauty and swiftness of the heavenly horses and the bravery of Turkmen dzhigits, who performed daredevil stunts at full tilt, fascinated the spectators. Green banners of the national flag of independent neutral Turkmenistan that the brave dzhigits were holding in their hands during their swift expressive performance highly soared above the arena.

The finale of the concert of friendship was the song by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Forward! Only Forward, the Homeland – Turkmenistan! performed by all participants and spectators under the arches of the magnificent concert hall. They performed it with inspiration and enthusiasm as the solemn hymn to independent neutral Motherland and the talent and inspiration of the Turkmen people – the nation of peacemakers and builders. Everyone stood to sing this wonderful pathetic song that filled the hearts of all Turkmen citizens with pride for their beloved homeland.

The warm congratulations and good wishes were expressed on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to all participants in the events, marking the completion of Mary’s mission as the cultural capital of the Turkic world.

The floor was given to the official representative of the Guinness World Records Ms. Seyda Subasi, who expressed admiration for the splendid architectural decision of the Turkmenin Ak Oyi building where the grandiose event involving over 4,000 participants performing the patriotic song by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Forward! Only Forward, the Homeland – Turkmenistan! in a burst of inspiration had taken place. Noting that this fact deserved inscribing on the Guinness World Records as a world record, the guest said that she had witnessed a huge patriotic ardour of citizens of Turkmenistan. Expressing gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for creating the remarkable song, Ms. Seyda Subasi informed of the decision of the editorial board of the Guinness World Records to register the record. To the applause of those she handed over a certificate and congratulated the leader of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen people on this achievement that evidenced the progress of the country in creating the highly spiritual patriotic society.

The ceremony of awarding the winners in the Turkmenin Altyn Asyr art contest, held each year under the auspices of the President of Turkmenistan, from Turkic-speaking countries took place in a festive atmosphere. To the applause of those present the gold chain and gifts were presented to the leaders of artistic groups from Tatarstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. They expressed profound gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for highly evaluating their work and promoting culture and art of Turkic peoples.

Addressing the ceremony participants, TURKSOY Secretary General D. Kaseinov emphasized the important role and the high level of organization of activities, held in the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015.

The solemn moment of the celebrations at Turkmenin Ak Oyi was the ceremony of handing over the attributes of the cultural capital of the Turkic world to the successor of Mary Azerbaijani Sheki, elected by the Permanent Council the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2016. This moment was interpreted in a creative way by artists from the two friendly countries who performed Turkmen kushtdepdi and Azerbaijani mugam – some kind of ‘visit cards’ of the national art of the fraternal peoples.
