It was summed up the Year «Mary – cultural capital of the Turkic world 2015»

Today, solemn ceremony devoted to the completion of the Year “Mary – cultural capital of the Turkic world 2015” took place in the administrative center of Mary province.

Mary took the baton of the cultural capital of the Turkic world from Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia). On January 27, at the Rukhiyet Palace, it was held official opening ceremony of the Year and started the events planned in accordance with delegated to the city the honorary status. Today, Mary sums up a large-scale activity.

Within the last year, various international events with participation of well-known scientists, historians, archeologists, museum workers, poets and writer, workers of culture and art took place here.

Among events of the Year, it is worth mentioning the scientific conference “Ancient Merv – the cultural center of Turkic world” organized in May and united specialists in literature, culturologists, art critics, historians, architects and archaeologists of a series of Turkic-speaking countries. It has become another significant step in the development of historical science in Turkmenistan and deepening of international scientific and cultural ties. At the same time, there was a concert of art masters of the Turkic-speaking countries, which program included musical productions created to the works of Turkish poet Yunus Emre.


Concerts of opera artists – masters of culture of the Turkic world held in June in Mary and Turkmenabat were timed to the Days of Culture in our country.

In October, in Mary, during IV Conference of stage masters of the Member States of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), it was discussed the current trends and prospects of development of theatrical art of the Turkic people, its role in preservation of national languages and cultures, keeping the historical and cultural heritage for future generations as well as represented a diverse palette of theatrical art of the brotherly nations. Creative meeting to the topic “Cultural heritage of the Turkic people” was organized in November in the Turkmen capital within the framework of International scientific conference “Dialogue of cultures on the Great Silk Road”.

The final events of the Year “Mary - the cultural capital of the Turkic world”, including the concert of Turkic-speaking countries devoted to the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and held a day before, in new unique building “Turkmenin ak oyi”, symbolizing the hospitality of the Turkmen people - peacemaker, adherence to the best traditions of the national culture, were held with great success in Mary.

A detailed report on these and other creative actions was presented today during the closing ceremony of the Year at the State Drama Theatre named after Kemine in Mary province. Officials and representatives of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, provincial and municipal administration, a number of social organizations, workers of culture and art, journalists and students as well as foreign guests, who came to Mary for the final events, became the participants of the ceremony.

As the Secretary General of TURKSOY D. Kaseinov noted, having accepted the honorary baton within the project “Cultural capital of the Turkic world”, the ancient Turkmen city - Mary worthily coped with this honorable and responsible mission.

For the participants of the final events of the Year “Mary - the cultural capital of the Turkic World – 2015”, it was prepared a large cultural program, which included the familiarization with the museum exhibits and sights of the Turkmen capital and the city of Mary. Today, in the afternoon, the guests visited the State Historic-Cultural Reserve “Ancient Merv”, where they got acquainted with its unique monuments as well as appreciated again the hospitality of the ancient Turkmen land, beauty of the unique and unrepeatable nature of this fertile region.
