Four students from our country have become prizewinners of the Regional French Language Olympiad, having secured a place for the team of Turkmenistan in the top three. Held for the first time, the Olympiad was organized by the French Cultural Network for Central Asia in collaboration with the Embassies of France in the Central Asian countries.

Over 350 students from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan participated in the Olympiad. Our country was represented by 24 contestants.

Shukurgeldy Myradov, who studies at the capital’s School No. 2, became a winner among students in Years 9-11. Notably, this is the second win Shukurgeldy has gained this year for his good command of French. One month ago, his essay entitled ‘The Most Important Woman in My Life’ was named the best in the 2021 Francophonie Competition.

Enesh Garryeva, an Ashgabat International School student, took second place in the Years 1-8 group. French School (Bouygues) students Arseniy Pétillon and Evangelina Rechov gained two winning spots (second and third respectively) among students from the schools where French is taught.

The Olympiad was run in two rounds. The first round consisted of a dictation and a test designed to assess the students’ grammar and spelling skills. The tasks were prepared in cooperation with Orthodidacte, an online platform created by Guillaume Terrien, the champion of France in spelling.

In the second round, the competitors had conversations with representatives of the French Cultural Network for Central Asia, who along with personnel of the Embassies of France in the five participating countries were members of the expert judging panel. From the total number of the participants, the judges chose 7 winners and 14 prizewinners, who received Certificates of Merit and valuable prizes.
