The capital’s Fashion House has hosted a competition and fashion show showcasing garments by Turkmen designers. Held to mark Ashgabat’s 140th anniversary, the event brought together representatives of the fashion industry from across the country.

The judges and many guests were treated to women’s and children’s evening and casual clothing collections, and sportswear.

It is safe to say that all the presented collections are true works of art: national embroidery and ethnic-style geometric and floral motifs continue be a prevailing fashion trend.

Turkmen designers showed their creativity to the full, having given a touch of elegance and expressiveness to casual outfits. The Spring Summer 2021 collections are stylish and exuberant.

Designer and entrepreneur Akmengli Komekova, who represented dressmaker’s studio Dana, made women’s national-style scarves the focal point. According to the designer, the scarf is a telling element of the nation’s unique culture. Akmengli Komekova and her team have a motto: “Be fashionable and keep up traditions!”

This year, light colors and various shades of beige prevailed in the collections. White dresses trimmed with lace, floor-length delicate beige gowns, and light green pant suits. Original national-style accessories added a decorative touch to the outfits making them complete.

The Altyn Asyr Marketing Center of the Textile Ministry of Turkmenistan was represented by Elena Kalashnikova. The designer accentuated the splendid beauty and a rich variety of national embroidery designs recognizable in virtually every single item in the collection.

Garments with voluminous shoulders are in vogue this year. However, designers point out that they are more suitable for tall women. Selbiniyaz Yusupova, whose collection immediately sparked avid interest from the event attendees, showcased the true oriental beauty.

– Outfits designed by Selbi are instantly recognizable, and I find it really appealing that she creates national-style clothes. The world around is changing all the time and so is fashion. To my delight, our designers try to preserve and enrich the traditions, public figure, business consultant Aylar Khojamukhammedova said.

The results of the creative competition are as follows: Akhal velayat-based designer Oraznabat Gulnazarova and Elena Kalashnikova (Altyn Asyr Marketing Center) were named joint winners. Gulnar Meredova (Dashoguz) and Maysa Anzarova (Mary) took second place. Third place went to Farrukh Yagdarov (Lebap velayat) and Selbiniyaz Yusupova (Ashgabat).

The competition was organized by the Textile Ministry of Turkmenistan.
