The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Bucharest, together with the National Museum of the Romanian Peasantry, organized an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen Carpet Day, which is celebrated in our country on the last Sunday of May.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, the diplomatic corps, as well as academicians, local citizens, as well as Turkmen students studying at universities in Bucharest.

Greeting all those present, General Director of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasantry Virgil Ştefan Niţulescu, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Romania Annamammet Annayev and Deputy Secretary of State in charge with Intangible Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Romania, Costel Cristian Lazăr talked about the history of the Turkmen carpet weaving, its role in world culture, emphasizing the importance of developing intercultural dialogue.

It was emphasized that the Turkmen national art of carpet weaving was included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

At the end of the plenary session, videos about the history and traditions of Turkmen carpet weaving were demonstrated.

A thematic exhibition was opened in one of the halls of the Museum of the Romanian Peasantry. It showcased the works of decorative and applied arts of the Turkmen people, photographs telling about the traditions, history, culture and nature of our country, as well as book products and souvenirs. The guests were able to get acquainted with original carpets and handmade rugs, samples of national clothes and embroidery, folk musical instruments, as well as the gastronomic traditions of the Turkmen people.
