During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov reported on progress of preparatory work for the XV Summit of Heads of State of the Organization for Economic Cooperation in our country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted that at the XIV ECO Summit, Turkmenistan assumed the chairmanship of this organization, in connection with which a relevant Concept was developed. As part of its implementation, a number of ministerial meetings have been held to date. In addition, in June it is planned to hold the 4th meeting of energy ministers and the 5th meeting of the heads of national statistical institutions of the ECO member countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the 15th ECO Summit was planned to be held in Ashgabat on November 28, the preparation for which was discussed during a meeting with the Secretary General of the organization on June 16. In this regard, it is envisaged to create an Organizing Commission composed of the heads of ministries and sectoral departments of Turkmenistan.

Commenting on the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that over the past years, Turkmenistan and the ECO had accumulated solid experience of cooperation, which creates a reliable basis for effectively combining efforts in the long term. The President of Turkmenistan focused on the consolidating role of the organization as a format of economic partnership between states united geographically, historically, by common cultural traditions and spiritual values. Stressing that, chairing the ECO, Turkmenistan intends to fully contribute to the implementation of the existing huge potential for interaction that meets the interests of common well-being, the President of Turkmenistan approved the proposals and instructed the relevant officials to ensure a high level of preparation for the upcoming XV ECO Summit and other planned events.
