Ministry of Culture strengthens control on the state protection of historical and cultural monuments

With the aim to protect cultural heritage sites and immovable historical monuments, construction works or any other activities on development of territories will be carried out only with approval of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.

According to the Resolution signed by the President of Turkmenistan on the safeguarding of immovable historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan, all legal entities irrespective of the form of ownership should submit the projects on conduction of land surveying, engineering, road-construction, construction, land reclamation and other works to the Ministry of Culture for approval.

At the beginning of the year, the Turkmen leader instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to prepare the document that would provide for an obligatory endorsement of all construction projects with the Ministry of Culture when selecting the location of facilities. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov flew in a helicopter across the capital city and its vicinities to see on-going construction work on a number of facilities and the condition of historical monuments, located in the suburbs of Ashgabat.

Addressing the Cabinet of Ministers, the President and noting that the Turkmen land was very rich in historical and cultural monuments which testify to the existence of the influential centres of civilization, strong states and large prosperous cities, located on the Great Silk Road that lay across the territory of our country, in that region in different epochs, the Turkmen leader instructed the Ministry of Culture to properly manage the preservation and protection of historical monuments.

This initiative will allow increasing the effectiveness of work to preserve and protect cultural heritage sites on the territory of Turkmenistan.
