Folklore contest was organized by the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan. The rite originated in antiquity on coast of the Caspian Sea became an integral part of the cultural heritage. Dance scenes were encrusted on surface of ancient rhytons of the Parthian Nisa. After the lapse of centuries, the rite “kushtdepdi” was transformed into a colorful, original dance, having become the hallmark of Turkmen culture. The origins of “kushtdepdi” over the life poured into the deep river of folk creativity. Presently, it is impossible to imagine without “kushtdepdi” any special event in the life of the Turkmen people.


Folklore groups, participating in the creative review, represent all regions of the country. In accordance with competition rules, “concert” of performances with a variety of acoustic effects will be minimized in order that the participants and audience felt distinctive character of ritual dance. Each creative group has original choreographic style, and therefore the spectacle promises to be bright and memorable.

During March, all regions will be involved in the festival orbit. It will be completed the competition in the homeland of “kushtdepdi” - in Balkan province, where at the beginning of April, it will be the final concert with participation of folk groups, which were able to reproduce the nature of folk dance most accurately and exciting.

“Kushtdepdi” is motley, but like hundreds years ago, it brings together in its circle new and new admirers of original dance, and this circle becomes more widely year by year thanks to the powerful life-affirming promise inherent in it.
