The epic "Gerogly" has one feature - the reader, who once took a book in his hands, will read it from the first to the last page, and more than once in the future will refer to this work in order to once again enjoy the incredible adventures of this amazing hero, stories about which have come down to us from the Middle Ages in the form of songs and legends.

The legend of the cheerful, fair and resourceful Gerogly, originating in the Turkmen people, spread among other peoples living nearby. Their versions of the exploits of Gerogly and his forty nukers appeared in Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkey. However, only in the Turkmen version the story of the birth of Gerogly is included in the legend. Some clarification is needed here. The boy was named Rovshen, but in the epic he is more referred to as Gerogly.

About 180 years ago, the French writer Georges Sand was literally fascinated by the image of the brave and, most importantly, just Turkmen hero Gerogly, who undertook to translate this work into French. The French reader liked the epic.

On December 2, 2015, the Turkmen heroic epic "Gerogly" was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The special pride of the Turkmen people for their legendary hero is based on the fact that the image of Gerogly personifies the mentality of the Turkmen people.
