A jewelry is one of ancient craft, which has not lost its demand even in the XXI century. Today, many applicants dream of entering the Department of decorative and applied arts of the State Art Academy of Turkmenistan. Both young men and women study at this faculty. However, it is worth to note that there are more and more women in this art every year.

Jeweler Ayjemal Cahriyeva, who recently graduated the Academy, teaches jewelry craft in the Art Academy of the capital for several years. In 2013, young jeweler has received a membership of the Artist Union of Turkmenistan for her original approach to the craft and success in this profession. However, she has started learning the traditions of jewelry art in her school ages.

Ayjemal Chariyeva was born in artistic family. Her father worked as production designer in theatre and mother was engaged in visual art. Her uncle, which way Ayjemal has followed, is a skillful jeweler.

I have spent my childhood in my uncle’s workshop. I was watching closely his work and tried to make something myself. Undoubtedly, no one can say that jewelry is women’s profession, sometimes you need a man’s strength, but nowadays, there are many technologies helping masters to make jewelry. This craft includes rich historical heritage of our nation – folklore and music. In addition, special attention is paid to jewelry in nation Turkmen dress.

Women jeweler make decorations not only for Turkmen beauties. In 2019, she won Turkmen horse art contest, having made a horse decoration “Wings of Success”. Ayjemal has been working for the whole year in creative project. And finally, she has come up with idea of unusual ornament for chest part of the harness just a week before the end of the contest.

I was inspired by the beauty of ahalteke horses, their grace and nobility, thus the idea for decoration has come by itself. Recently, I have accomplished my new work, on which I was inspired by the history of ancient caravansary of Dayahatyn. Woman figure is placed in the center of the item with carnelian. From the ancient time this stone embodies love, belief and family happiness.

Ayjemal thinks that woman master feels the preference of women in selection of jewelry. Therefore, the collection of jeweler includes wide range of decorations like bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings and many other.

The museum of the Art Academy of Turkmenistan has a diploma work of Ayjemal Chariyeva, the decoration for women’s headdress ‘egme’ “Tumarsha”. Works of Turkmen jeweler have also been presented at the exhibitions and contests not only in our country but also abroad.
