Heads of state and government, foreign ministers of Central and South Asian countries, representatives of Russia, the USA and China have been invited to attend the international conference entitled ‘Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities’ to be held in Tashkent on July 15-16.

The forum is expected to discuss proposals for cooperation between the countries in transport, logistics, energy, and trade, and the promotion of cultural-humanitarian relations.

The conference is to address issues of greater economic partnerships between countries in Central and South Asia, which are home to 25 percent of the global population and seen as prospective markets for exports of goods and services.

Turkmenistan is currently implementing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Pipeline Project in the region. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are carrying out the international CASA-1000 Project designed to construct power transmission lines to supply up to 5 billion kWh of electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Kazakhstan is participating in the implementation of the International North-South Transport Corridor Project, using Iran’s Chabahar port to boost trade with India and other countries in South Asia.

Turkmenistan is one of Uzbekistan’s most important regional partners. According to the CIS Internet Portal, bilateral trade between the countries has increased 2.7 times in the last four years. Tashkent and Ashgabat assign a high priority to closer cooperation on a number of joint projects as well as in the textile, building, chemical and electronics sectors.

Following the countries’ independence, the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan strategic partnership, based on the principles of friendship, good neighborliness, mutual respect and trust, has been an outstanding example for many years representing relations between the two nations linked by a shared centuries-old heritage in the present-day world.
