This week, the OSCE Center in Ashgabat hosted an international online seminar to promote best practices and standards, discuss the prospects and challenges of Smart cities and the development of the renewable energy sector.

At the OSCE Center in Ashgabat the GA correspondent was told that representatives of the Ministry of Energy, as well as teachers and students of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan, took part in the three-day seminar.

Two international experts from Belarus presented their program on standardization and implementation of the «smart city» concept. In their reports, they demonstrated modern energy-saving technologies, methods of monitoring and forecasting infrastructure, as well as maintaining an alternative and sustainable energy supply. The event also discussed the development of smart energy grids in the region, the introduction and promotion of "green" certificates.

«Smart and sustainable cities have a positive impact on the environment, as the main theme of their development is to reduce CO2 emissions, improve energy efficiency and storage of energy, as well as develop its alternative sources,» said John McGregor, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

It should be recalled that it was previously reported that the first smart city will appear in Turkmenistan - a «smart» city, the most convenient for people's lives. It will be created on the site of a new administrative center under construction in the Akhal velayat. This was stated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, having visited the site of its construction in March this year.

The new administrative center of the Akhal velayat is being built in a picturesque place in the foothills of the Kopetdag, and in order to preserve this natural beauty, «green» technologies should be widely used, the head of state noted.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that the key principle here will be the self-sufficiency of the organization of urban space based on intelligent systems in order to provide the population with all opportunities for a comfortable life, fruitful work and study, good rest, sports, creativity.

Berdimuhamedov said: «Thus, it will be a smart city – a «smart» city, most convenient for people's lives».

The area allocated for the construction of the new administrative center of the Akhal velayat has been thoroughly investigated by scientists, including its ecological state, seismicity and other relevant indicators. The construction of objects for various purposes is carried out at a high rate.
