President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in Dushanbe that Turkmenistan highly appreciates the position of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in strengthening peace, stability and security.

The Turkmen leader said this, speaking at the anniversary summit of the heads of the SCO member states, where he was invited as an honorary guest.

According to the head of the Turkmen state, it is important that the countries of this organization are long-standing traditional partners of Turkmenistan, its neighbors and friends. The President noted that therefore, Ashgabat considers the development of relations with the SCO in an organic connection, both with the progressive course of bilateral partnership, and with the general direction of its participation in world and continental affairs.

Berdimuhamedov stressed: “In this context, Turkmenistan highly appreciates the constructive and responsible position taken by the SCO in matters of strengthening peace, global stability and security, countering modern challenges and threats”.

He also said that, within the framework of its neutral status, Turkmenistan is ready for active cooperation with the SCO in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, as well as in ensuring information and biological security.
