Turkmenistan-Russia: development of inter-parliamentary relations

Priority directions of development of the constructive inter-parliamentary dialogue were discussed within the limits of the telephone conversation, which took place today between Chairwoman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G.Mammedova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation V.Matvienko.

The chairwoman of the Mejlis congratulated the head of the upper chamber of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on successful elections of deputies to the State Duma of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, having noted also high organizational level of the third Eurasian Women's Forum which gave the chance for exchange by opinions and experience, acquaintance with the advanced practice on its topic.

The chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation warmly thanked her colleague for congratulation and for participation of the delegation of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan in supervision over elections of deputies of the State Duma of the eighth convocation. At the same time, she expressed gratitude for participation of representatives of our country online in the Eurasian Women's Forum.

During the conversation necessity of further development of inter-parliamentary multilateral formats of interaction, counting upon prospect was marked. The possibility of conduction of an inter-parliamentary forum of high level the next year in Turkmenistan was also discussed.

The chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation also invited the delegation of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan to take part in the next, 53rd session of Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the CIS in November this year which will take place in St.-Petersburg.

Throughout the conversation, the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in further development of the Turkmen-Russian relations was underlined. In the given context, they hoped for further activization of traditional inter-parliamentary dialogue.

It was noted that Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation are attached to primordial friendly and good-neighbourhood relations and development of constructive partnership was and remains one of the key directions of foreign policy strategy of leaders of both countries.

At the end of telephone conversation, having underlined the powerful contribution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin to promotion of fruitful cooperation between two states and people, the sides expressed best regards to heads of Turkmenistan and Russia.
