Team of Turkmenistan on tennis started with win in play against Iraq team– 3:0 in the zonal tournament of the Davis Cup, which is held in Isa Town city (Bahrein).
In the Asia and Oceania IV Group, where are our countrymen, at first it was planned the participation of 16 teams. But the teams of Singapore, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Tajikistan, were pull out the competition on different reasons, as a result, now 12 teams will contend for three paths into the Asia and Oceania III Group of the Davis Cup, divided into three groups.
The Team of Turkmenistan is seeded in pot “B” together with the teams of Oman, Iraq, Mongolia. The composition of other two port is as follows: «А» – United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Guam, Bahrein; «C» – Iran, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen.
By two best teams from each group will get in playoff, the winners of which will gain right to play in the Asia and Oceania III Group next year.
In the start game the team of Turkmenistan has no great problems against the “old timers” of the Asia and Oceania IV Group – the team of Iraq, the tennis players of which have 124 rating position and have been playing in the Davis Cup since 1988, with intervals. In the first single, which lasted 2 hours 6 minutes, Yuri Rogusskiy won Adel Mustafa Al-Sayyedi in two sets — 7:5, 6:2. And in the second single – Isa Mametkuliev, being ranked 1st in our country, in 1 hour 45 minutes won Mohammed Abuzed Saber– 7:5, 6:2. In the third game, lasted 1 hour 25 minutes, the pair I. Mametkuliev /Yu.Rogusskiy won over the pair Mohammed Al-Shamari / Abdulla Ali Hatem – 7:5, 6:1.
The next opponent of the Turkmen tennis players will be the team of Mongolia, with 129 rating position, which lost to the team of Oman – 1:2 in the first tournament.
The results of other plays of the tournament: group «А» – Saudi Arabia – Bahrein – 3:0, United Arab Emirates – Guam – 3:0; group «С» – Cambodia - Yemen – 3:0, Iran - Kyrgyzstan – 3:0.
It will be recalled that the Turkmen tennis players have been playing in the Davis Cup since 2004 года. In 2012 in the zonal tournament of IV group in Doha (Qatar) they for the first time got to the playoff, where in contend for paths into the III group of the Asia and Oceania zone, they lost to Cambodia– 0:3. In 2013, having won all its opponents in the tournament in UAE, our countrymen for the first time got to higher ranked group. In 2014 in the zonal tournament of the Davis Cup in Tehran the team of Turkmenistan won the representatives of UAE – 2:1 and kept place in III group of the Asia and Oceania zone. And the best result in this competition they have in 2015, when they got to playoff of the Asia and Oceania III Group in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
