The 29th Turkmenistan Football Championship started in Ashgabat with a match between Ashgabat FC and Altyn Asyr FC.

According to the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, this year the tournament will be held in a truncated format - 8 teams will compete in two rounds. Altyn Asyr FC, Ashgabat FC and Kopetdag FC represent the capital. Balkan FC - represents Balkanabat and Shagadam FC – Turkmenbashi, Balkan velayat, Merv FC and Energetik FC - Mary velayat and Ahal FC - Ahal velayat.

According to the results of the championship, which finishes on December 19, the best team of Turkmenistan will for the first time get the right to play in the qualification rounds of the AFC Champions League in 2022, and the winner of the 2021 Turkmenistan Cup as well as the silver medalist of the national championship will take part in the second most important Asian club tournament - the AFC-2022 Cup. If the same team becomes the champion and owner of the Cup of Turkmenistan, then the bronze medalist of the national championship will also represent our team in the AFC-2022 Cup along with the vice-champion.
