The Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan (MHMPT), together with UNDP and the World Bank, are planning to launch a new COVID-19 response project in Turkmenistan.

The project will strengthen national capacities for testing and treatment, professional development of health workers, procurement of reagents, drugs and medical equipment, and elimination of social and health risks associated with the pandemic. The project will support the implementation of digital solutions for the control of infectious diseases.

“UNDP is ready to join forces with the World Bank, other UN agencies and the Government of Turkmenistan to strengthen the country's national health system and increase its preparedness for current and future pandemics,” said Narine Sahakyan, UNDP's new Resident Representative in Turkmenistan.

It should be noted that Turkmenistan has adopted the National Plan for Preparedness and Response of the Country to Acute Infectious Diseases (CPRP), developed in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization. It covers the areas of leadership, coordination, planning, as well as risk communication and community participation, and other aspects of an effective response to infectious diseases.

The WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan presented a roadmap for the implementation of this document.
