The Office of the Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan extends the cooperation

In the framework of the increase of institutional capacity, the Office of the Ombudsperson for human rights in Turkmenistan jointly with the UNDP studies an International Practice and Norms of Interaction of National Human Rights institutions with Law Enforcement Agencies, Bar Associations and international human rights institutions. Two-day online seminar, organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, was dedicated to this topic.

The seminar is aimed raise awareness among law enforcement officials, lawyers on best international practices of cooperation of Ombudsperson`s Office and law-enforcement agencies and the UN Principles and Guidelines on Access to Legal Aid in Criminal Justice Systems. 

The international expert Mr. Peter Iiskola presented effective and best international mechanisms of interaction between the Office of the Ombudsman with law enforcement agencies and other government institutions for the protection of human rights in accordance with the Paris Principles.

The Ombudsman Institution became an integral part of the modern model of the effective state management, and play a key role in the protection and development of human rights and rule of law. The Ombudsmen more and more actively participate in the international cooperation in regional and globe level.

It should be noted, that the Venice Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution recognize an important role of the Ombudsman in the protection of human rights lawyers, emphasize the significance of the national and international cooperation of the Ombudsman Institution and similar institutes.
