President of Turkmenistan calles on Turkic-speaking countries to coordinate actions

Speaking at the VIII Summit of the Turkic Council or the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called on the Turkic-speaking states to coordinate efforts to address the global problems. 

The President of Turkmenistan proposed strengthening relations between fraternal peoples and states, coordinating approach to address international problems, which is especially important in light of the ambiguous processes and serious changes taking place in the world today.

The Turkmen leader underlined that the consistency and activity of the Turkic-speaking countries, determined by their position, authority and strategic political and diplomatic conjuncture, could transform into a key role in international and regional processes, primarily in ensuring and maintaining sustainable development in Central Asia, the Caspian and Black Seas, South Caucasus, Middle and Middle East.

The President of Turkmenistan expressed belief that in the current conditions it was necessary to expand the relations of the Turkic-speaking countries within the framework of the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and other international and regional structures.

In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan underlined the importance of developing a strategy for more active and effective participation of the Union of Turkic-speaking states in the UN activities. According to the Turkmen leader, securing cooperation between the Union of Turkic-speaking states and the UN in a special international document would be a consistent step in this direction.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, in case of full consensus on this proposal, it is possible to start a preliminary diplomatic procedure in the General Assembly in the near future, and then come up with a general draft of the corresponding resolution. The President of Turkmenistan expressed belief that it would help to achieve understanding and support from the international community for a constructive and unified position on establishing systemic interaction between the Turkic-speaking countries and the UN, and would also become an effective tool for consolidating efforts in the name of common interests.
