Nedir Allaberdyyev won first bronze medal for Turkmenistan in the 2021World Sambo Championship held in Tashkent. The 28-age old graduate of the Turkmen State Institute of physical culture and sport succeeded in the weight category up to 79 kg, where 21sambo athletes jockeyed for awards.

In the first two bouts Nedir confined win against Dino-dominic Sumpor from Croatia – 9:0 and Bernad Redzic form North Macedonia – 4:0. В in the quarter-final N. In the repechage, having won over Abdulla Abdullayev form Azerbaijan – 4:0, Nedir Allaberdyyev in the bout for the bronze medal met with the 2020 world champion 2020 in weight category up to 74 kg, many-time European champion, winner of 2019 European Games in Minsk, winner of bronze medal in the 2013 World Universiade in Kazan Aliaksandr Koksha from Belorussia.

Throughout the bout our sportsman lost to more eminent sambo wrestler, primarily – 0:2, then – 1:2, thereafter – 2:3. It were final minutes, but a result on the scoreboard didn’t changed. And next moment, 3 seconds before the end of the bout, Nedir threw the opponent and scored 2 points and pulled out a victory – 4:3, complete with the bronze medal of the world championship.

Yanar Hojamuhamedov, a head trainer of men’s national sambo team, led to success this talented sportsman.

For N. Allaberdyyev, who engages in sambo only three years, – it was debut in the world championship. Earlier he engaged in judo and kurash. He was a medalist on kurash in the 2017 V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which was held in Ashgabat.

It is noteworthy that Allaberdyyev was included in the national team of Turkmenistan, which went to the capital of Uzbekistan, at the very last moment. Before the trip to Tashkent, the famous sambist Begench Baltayev was considered the main contender for participation in the World Championship in weight up to 79 kg in our team, who at the June Asian Championship-2021 showed himself well, reaching the quarterfinals. However, for family reasons, he could not go to the 2021 World Cup, and then the head coach of the national team Ya. Hojamuhamedov insisted on including Allaberdyyev in the national team. And, as it turned out, not in vain.

Another Turkmen sambist had good opportunities to compete for bronze on the first day of the competition– Muhammet Kosekov, performed in the weight category up to 64 kg. In the 1/8 finals, he confidently defeated Bulgarian Radoslav Markov - 3: 0, and in the quarterfinals, due to a warning and a remark, he lost to the world champion Rakhat Zhananiet from Kazakhstan - 0: 1. It is noteworthy that this was the second fight of the rivals this year. Earlier in the final of the continental championship, which was also held in June in Tashkent, M. Kossekov defeated R. Zhananiet and became the champion of Asia.

One more our representative of sambo wrestling Guvanch Begaliyev shared 7th place with Arsen Gazaryan from Armenia in the weight category up to 88 kg.

In the women’s tournament Jahan Muhamedova (up to 80 kg) shared 5th place with Lea Katarina Gobec form Croatia, Maksuda Yegemberdyyeva (over 80 kg) – 7th place with Helen Cirak from France.

According to Sambo International Federation (FIAS), Tashkent world championship brought together representatives of 50 countries, which for the first time determine the strongest in seven weight categories in the sports variety of wrestling among men and women, as well as in combat sambo.

The competitions are held in the sports complex "Uzbekistan" in special sanitary conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants of the 2021 World Cup, which became the first after receiving permanent recognition of FIAS by the International Olympic Committee, regularly pass PCR tests, and also comply with all sanitary standards.

At the same World Championship, the prize fund was set in the amount of 231 thousand US dollars. The world champions won by 4 thousand, silver winners – by 3 thousand, and bronze – by 2 thousand US dollars.
