Video competition on occasion of the Human Rights Day

On occasion of the Human Rights Day, which is celebrated every year on 10 December, the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan launched the video competition among the youth. The theme of the creative contest aimed at the raise awareness about the human rights is «My understanding of the human rights».

The citizens of Turkmenistan at the age of 15-35, who has an imaginative and creative thinking and wishing change a world around us are invited to participate in the competition. Each video must cover and explore one right of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948, where for the first time ever the fundamental human rights and freedoms were adopted and proclaimed.

In video, which lasts one minute, the participants must finish a sentence «Human rights for me is…» in Turkmen, English or Russian.

The works accepted until 3 December on e-mail: undptm@gmail.com. The winners will be announced on 9 December.

The Human Rights Day was celebrated for the first time in 1950, after adoption by the UN General Assembly UN of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is a possibility for the world society to reaffirm the importance of human rights in restoring peace as we want it to be.

The 1948 Declaration guarantees the rights of every person, anywhere in the world, without distinction of any kind, such as with respect to nationality, place of residence, gender, ethnicity, language, religion or other status.

«Where do human rights begin? Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home - so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere», - stated Eleanor Roosevelt.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights takes first place in the world in terms of translation to more than 500 languages of the peoples of the world, that is a clear testimony of its universal nature.
