The forum was held in the conference hall of the state union "Turkmenhaly". It was traditionally devoted to Day of Celebration of the Turkmen carpet which was widely celebrated on the last Sunday of May.
Among the delegates were scientists-historians and art historians, experts, master-weavers and collectors, as well as developers of new technology from Iran, China, Germany, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, representatives of the offices of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens in the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan, leaders of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, National cultural centers of these countries, and others.
Achievements in resolving tasks in careful preservation and popularization of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Turkmen people, enhancement of the national traditions of handmade carpet weaving and other arts and crafts, development and introduction of new industrial technologies in the industry, including the processing and dyeing wool – all these issues were in the central focus of participants. In their speeches, the forum participants highlighted the issues on outcomes of scientific research in the history of the origin and characteristics of the ancient carpet patterns, and development of carpet art in different countries and in different historical epochs.
As mentioned, man-made canvas of Turkmen masters since ancient times are famous, and are still the subject of universal admiration. Thanks to the active support and contribution to the development and enhancement of the glorious traditions of national art of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov - the author of wonderful books about the beauty of Turkmen carpets "Living Legend" and "The beauty of heaven."
In the evening, a solemn awarding ceremony of the best workers of the industry was held in "Ashgabat" Concert center which in accordance with Presidential Decree was awarded the honorary title "Honored carpet-maker of Turkmenistan" and, was conferred diplomas and valuable gifts.
A large concert with participation of workers of culture and art was held for the carpet makers, Ashgabat residents and visitors and guests.
Art exhibitions and competitions, concerts and theatrical performances were held in all cities and districts in honor of Day of Celebration of the Turkmen carpet. The ceremony devoted to the best masters of crafts and outstanding worker of the industry took place in all enterprises of carpet weaving art factories and manufacturing plants of the "Turkmenhaly" State Union, public organizations of the country.
