The first batch of medical equipment from the Government of Japan arrives in Turkmenistan

Within the framework of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) project “Improving the healthcare system through the provision of medical equipment in Turkmenistan”, the first batch of medical equipment arrived in the country on behalf of the Government of Japan.

The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Turkmenistan Hiroyuki Yamamoto, and. O. UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, head of the UN Children's Fund Mohamad Fayazi, representative of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, head of the Austrian Multi-Country Office, Ms. Freya von Groote, as well as representatives of the media.

The received equipment will be used in medical institutions of Turkmenistan. It should be noted that further supplies are planned to be organized to assist the government of Turkmenistan in its efforts to strengthen the health care system in the country.

The implementation of the program to improve the health system implies coordination with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan to ensure timely delivery of purchased equipment throughout the country, as well as the provision of appropriate guarantees, maintenance and training of end users, control over the distribution, assembly and receipt of purchased equipment.

The project, launched by the Government of Japan and UNOPS in March this year, is being implemented within the framework of the United Nations Framework Program for Cooperation on Sustainable Development for 2021-2025, the National Preparedness and Response Plan and the Plan for Socio-Economic Response to the Pandemic of Acute Infectious Diseases.

As an operational arm of the United Nations, UNOPS operates in more than 80 countries around the world and implements projects in the field of peace and security.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted the important role of UNOPS in providing countries with meaningful experience in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
