The sculptor Saragt Babayev was born in 1948 in Sarakhs etrap, Akhal velayat. In 1970-1974 he studied this art at the sculpture faculty of the Turkmen State Special Art School, in the workshop of Bayram Atdaev, and in 1974-1980 at the Moscow Art Institute named after V.I.Surikov, in the workshop of Fyodor Baburin.
Saragt Babaev is a monumental and easel sculptor who creates memorable images from granite, wood, bronze and marble. He works in different genres. National motives are felt in his works of the portrait genre "Mother", "Turkmen Girl", "Portrait of a Young Guy".
In the portraits created in the nineties of the last century, the master achieves important generalization and creates holistic, realistic, sharp images. The image of the student Sona, or the psychological portraits of Murad's son, fellow villager Muratgeldy, are made very delicately.
Such works of the master as "Alty Garlyev", "Chary Amangeldyev", "Yzzat Klychev" "Babasary Annamuradov" show that he is trying to depict a person at the moment of some kind of mental or emotional stress. the movements of the depicted people, paying special attention to this. Because it is these features that suit the character of the depicted and give impetus for a more effective manifestation of this character.
In the sculptures "In memory of bakhshi Orazgeldy Ilyasov", "Resettlement", "Memories of my mother" the small size of the works is brought to a high level of monumentality.
Involved in the artistic life of the country, he is engaged in teaching activities not only in art schools of the state, but also in workshops. Currently participating in the creation of monumental monuments of the country, Saragt Babaev educates a young generation of talented sculptors who freely show their unique creative individuality.
The main tendencies of more significant works created by Saragt Babaev in recent years are the historical memories of thinkers of the past, national heroes. Creating his works, the master skillfully uses their superficial beauty and achieves more vivid images.
The textures of his works are always effective and built on the play of light against shadow ("Fate", "Echo of Ages"). In them, the strength and monumentality of the general structure of the volume is combined with the grace of the structure of the volume. The monumentality of the volumes is the same as the sensitivity of the surface. At the same time, the images, while preserving the richness of the inner world of the model, achieve tension and romantic integrity.
The creative inspiration of Saragta Babayev is in its prime. His indomitable character, always looking for something new, does not allow him to sit idle. It pushes him to search for new artistic means that make it possible to actively penetrate the consciousness of his contemporaries.
Considering his merits in Turkmen art, the famous sculptor Saragt Babayev was awarded medals "Watana bolan söýüsi üçin" "Gaýrat" "Magtymguly Pyragy" , The International Prize of Turkmenistan named after Makhtumkuli is also several times the winner of the competition of the President of Turkmenistan “Türkmeniň Altyn asyry” of the competition “Türkmen bedewiniň iň gowy heykeli üçin“. He was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of Turkmenistan.
In honor of the 70th anniversary of the master and for a significant contribution to the artistic art of the country, President Arkadag awarded Saragt Babayev with the honorary title "Türkmenistanyň hormatly il yaşulysy".
