At the regular press conference held on 19 January,2022 the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkey to Turkmenistan Togan Oral stated that despite the pandemic restrictions the volume of mutual trade between Turkmenistan and Turkey significantly increased last year. Export of Turkmenistan to Turkey increased in 2021 increased by more than 50%. The same indicator from Turkey to Turkmenistan increased by more than 27%, and total commodity turnover between the countries made up one billion 911 million US dollars.
According to Ambassador, operation of the trans-Caspian transport corridor promoted increase of the bilateral turnover. He also emphasized an importance and significance of road and air transport in this aspect.
In general, characterizing development of current Turkmen-Turkish relations for last year, the diplomat stressed that thanks to the high-level visits between our countries the mutual relations converged and broaden. Among important events of last year are: the visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Istanbul in November, when Turkmenistan got the observer status in the Organization of Turkic States, and in two weeks – return visit of the leader of Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Ashgabat.
The diplomat also extended its gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for the grant of pardon in May last year, thanks to which a number of citizens of Turkey, who have been sentenced in Turkmenistan, got the opportunity to start a new life and celebrate the Muslim holiday Oraza at home, in their motherland.
A newly appointed Press Counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Ashgabat Mr. Hayrettin Bektaş was introduced in the press conference to the representatives of the local mass media.
