By tradition, the presentation is dedicated to the widely celebrated in Turkmenistan Day of workers of culture and art, established on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on June 27, 2008 - the day in history of the national art is the day of the revival of the Turkmen opera. Since then, opera productions have become an integral component of Culture Week agenda which is held annually in different regions of the country and reflects the achievements of modern art.
Opera "Sayatkhan" is created by the talented composer Aman Agadzhikov. His contribution to this work made by a composer Nurygandym Hodzhamuhammedov. Libretto is based on the idea of Alty Karliyev and Atamyrat Atabaev – the People’s destan "Sayatly Hemra". The consultant of the performance has become a renowned opera singer Hero of Turkmenistan May Kuliyeva.
For the first time this destan was performed on the basis of ancient manuscripts in the years of independence. Described in the plot of the story the beautiful and the sublime love, now centuries later, like a camertone, attracts hearts of people to a wave of light and goodness.
According to the creators of the performance, it is to choose national destan due to appeal to the national heritage, which is very featured and actual for the theatrical works in the Year of honoring the heritage, and transformation of Fatherland. Colorful stage presentation allows viewers to experience the uniqueness of the Turkmen traditions and rituals. It is not by accident almost all the verses of "Sayatly Hemra" have become folk songs, often having been presented at wide spread holidays and family celebrations. Having taken folk music scene and subject material on the basis, the opera creators rethink it closer to the current trends.
The action begins with the story of the beautiful and proud girl Sayatkhan, the heart of which is intended to conquer the musician Hemra. The plot outline is about the hero, who despite the obstacles overcomes all the trials of life. Here it is interwoven the theme of art as its image-symbol where dutar is presented. Author's music subtly melodic, intonation is close to the national lingering melosis.
In the new musical drama productions widely used the possibility of large forms, opera abounds choral episodes, full of action. All mass scenes imbued with national spirit, good humor, and life-affirming force.
The performance includes brightness of images, the music and costumes beauty. Original decoration, in the style of women's national ornaments, move freely around the stage and over it, easily transformed into a tower resembling oriental minarets to be imprisoned the hero abode for lofty dreams, the heros’ secluded dating place, etc.
The main parties in the "Sayatkhan" opera are performed by students of the Turkmen National Conservatoire, who are first participating on the stage of professional theater, standing nearby their masters. The union of experience, skill is the features for Turkmen culture. It is idea of the continuity of generations. It also involved the State Symphony Orchestra, State Choir, artists of the Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre named after Magtumguli and the Turkmen State Institute of Culture.
