Sound dutar!

From February 1 to February 10, the Turkmen national television and radio will broadcast programs, theatrical performances, feature films and documentaries dedicated to the dutar and the art of bakhshi.

In different years, cultural figures of Turkmenistan, through their work, told about legendary personalities - bakhshi and destanchi, who masterfully owning the national instrument. An integral part of the centuries-old musical culture of the Turkmen people - the dutar has accompanied the masters of folk singing since ancient times.

In the book of the respected President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "Bakhshi - the harbingers of people's happiness", in the chapter dedicated to the dutar, there is a legend about the origin of the musical instrument:

“According to legend, Baba Gammar, who worked as a hostler for Caliph Aly, made the first dutar. But no sound could be extracted from it. Then Baba Gammar, taking advantage of the advice of the shaitan, installed a nut on the fretboard of the dutar and pulled the strings. The instrument sounded, making heavenly sounds. Since then, the stand, installed near the pegs, has been called "Shaitan's threshold".

Thematic broadcasts are dedicated to the significant event of the inclusion of the craft of making dutar, performing musical art on it and the art of bakhshi on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
