The representative delegation of Turkmenistan that arrived in the US capital on March 22-23 took part in the Turkmenistan-US political consultations. Within the framework of the consultations the interlocutors worked out the mechanism for stirring up the bilateral cooperation discussed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the meeting in New York in September, 2009.
During the meeting, the members of the Turkmen delegation and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the existing situation and prospects for bilateral relations, regional and international issues as well as cooperation of the two countries at the international arena.
The political consultations continued within the framework of the meeting in the US Department of State focused on a wide spectrum of issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, social and humanitarian spheres. United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake represented the US on the meeting. The parties paid particular attention the issues of cooperation in the fuel and energy sphere. US Department Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar took part in the meeting.
The issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the US to address the global challenges and threats of the present time, in particular, joint efforts of the two friendly countries in the struggle against international terrorism, transboundary organized crime and illicit drug trafficking were also discussed during the meeting.
The members of the delegations of the two countries analyzed the existing situation of the trading and economic relations of Turkmenistan and the US, and discussed the new ways of further consolidation of the trading and economic partnership. The meeting participants underlined the role of the Turkmen-American Business Council established in 2009 in stirring up the economic relations. As is known, the first exhibition of American companies, and the Turkmen-American business forum were organized in Ashgabat last year jointly with the Turkmen-American Business Council.
The meeting participants discussed the issues of organization and preparation for the second exhibition of American companies and the Turkmen-American business forum scheduled for May of the current year. 104 American companies and more than 300 businessmen and specialists are planning to take part in the exhibition and business-forum in the Turkmen capital.
The meeting participants discussed the issues of developing the Turkmen-American relations in implementation of programmes and projects in such spheres as agriculture, education, science, and healthcare. Particular attention was paid to fostering bilateral relations in the cultural sphere.
During the visit of the Turkmen delegation to the US, Turkmen specialists met with the heads of the Smithson University. The meeting participants discussed the new vectors for cooperation in the humanitarian sphere and further widening of cultural relations, in particular, establishing closer contacts, creative and scientific exchanges, implementation of joint programmes and projects.
Within the framework of the visit, on instruction of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the members of the Turkmen delegation had a meeting with the members of the Turkmen-American Business Council. The heads of the Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Conocophillips, Caterpillar, Boeing, Case New Holland, Bell Helicopter and other companies took part in the meeting. The meeting participants discussed the opportunities for the American business in the Turkmen market, delivery of new technologies to our country, investments into the highly prospective Turkmen market, etc.
Moreover, the members of the Turkmen delegation held a number of meetings with the heads of leading oil and gas companies, including Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Conocophillips. Highly appreciating the prospects for cooperation with Turkmenistan that possesses huge of reserves of hydrocarbon resources, American businessmen expressed the readiness to provide assistance to our country in implementation of the strategy for diversification of energy resources export to the world market and to take an active part in the projects on laying new transnational pipelines, constructing new objects of the oil and gas industry and providing services.
