The Museum of Fine Arts opened an exhibition dedicated to Day of the Turkmen Melon

Aromatic, juicy, sweet melon is "queen of melons" has always been a subject of special pride of the Turkmen people. Day of the Turkmen Melon established tribute of respect to melon growers, farmers, absorbed in it the uniqueness of national customs and traditions, and is a reflection of historical thinking and identity of the Turkmen people.


On the eve of the festivity, the Museum of Fine Arts with the assistance of the State Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan has been organized the thematic art exhibition titled "Turkmenistan - the birthplace of sweet melon", dedicated to the history and traditions of the solar fruit cultivation. Luscious color paintings presented at the exhibition clearly reflects the exquisite taste and appeal of melon.

In the works, still lifes renowned domestic artists G.Babikov, Ya.Annanurov, N.Ershov, Ch.Hummedov, I.Myagkov, M.Yaziyev, N.Shahberdiyev, E.Grishin, G.Hodzhaguliyev managed to skillfully display the generous gifts of the Turkmen land. Painted pictures in different years, the paintings colorfully transmit a variety of sorts of melons "vaharman", "gyokgurbek", "gulyabi", "sarygulyabi", characterized by a unique taste and aroma. Artfully reproduced on canvas the honey melon is the constant dessert of the national cuisine not only in summer, when it is impregnated with the hot rays of the Turkmen sun and in winter it is carefully preserved fruit "garrygyz" acquire special refined taste.


Thus, the picture of the honored artist of Turkmenistan S. Meredov "Melody of dutar" witness spirited image of Turkmen Bakhshi, glorifies the native land of wealth. In the foreground in front of bakhshi the painter has depicted a bowl with fruit and variety as one of the sweetest and miniature melons. People used to call “Rapid ripe-terne”, or "Zamcha". The coloring of the picture is prepared by favorite golden tones.

In his painting "Harvest" by I.Myagkov which was depicted the Turkmen girls on the background of melons bearing the fragrant melons to Harman. The works have done in bright colors and radiates vitality.


The exhibition includes landscapes of historic places, where the famous melons were grown. This is a picture image of a unique O.Hadjiнev depicting in its pictures the unique pearl of Kunyaurgench "Tyurabe Khanym", the landscape "Turkmenistan" of the artist R. Berdiyev dedicated to the monuments Meshedi-Misrian.


Numerous historical sources of the Middle Ages, noted by the travelers XVIII-XIX centuries testifies that the Turkmen melon has long been an important product of the local markets and in large quantities exported to the Eastern states. The Arab traveler Ibn Battuta, who visited Kunyaurgench, was impressed by local melons. He wrote, "... neither in the east nor in the western parts of the Muslim world there are no such melons. Their peeling is green, red flesh, very sweet and at the same time firm. It is cut into pieces, dried in the sun, placed in a basket and taken to the distant cities of India and China. There are no better dried fruits among all." Up until now the Turkmen Melon retained its "elite" status, pleasing subtle connoisseurs for its exquisite taste and aroma, and a festive vernissage fully reflected the "royal status" of the solar fruit.
