Preservation of the historical and cultural heritage is a priority direction of state policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Year of Honoring the Heritage, the Transformation of the Fatherland, approved by the leader of the nation of the State program of scientific research and popularization of the national cultural heritage in Turkmenistan for 2016-2021 years are an indication of respectful relations of the historical and cultural monuments. This reflects the priority of the spiritual values of the nation, which laid the basis for the progressive development of the Turkmen state and society. The work on preservation and restoration of ancient manuscripts is implemented by the National Institute of Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.


The main direction of activity of the Institute is to create conditions conducive for preservation and conservation of manuscripts. The ancient tomes are vulnerable with regard to time; however, information technology and equipment allow saving it in digital format.

The object of electronic publication can be virtually any manuscript that expands the opportunities for paleographic, art history and textual analysis of handwritten monuments. As emphasized by the head of state, "the cultural values of the Turkmen people are the golden fund of our enthusiastic nation. This is the property of the native people, who made an invaluable contribution to the world's political, spiritual, cultural and economic development. "


In the conservation of monuments manuscripts, rare books, archival documents, the Institute works closely with international organizations, including the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination with the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey (TIKA). With the support of this organization it was created the software and hardware server. Information of folios is given the opportunity to create an electronic catalog of the priceless manuscript heritage of the Turkmen. It is already scanned most of the handwritten works fund with bibliographic description.


Restoration of books is another kind of preservation of invaluable historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people. To work with ancient tomes of research staff of the Institute is responsibly, a priceless heritage that unites generations. To do this, it is used the manual restoration materials, such as: a scalpel, forceps, spatula and brush for paper carriers, wooden vise, string binding, and clamp - for bookbinding. Restored materials are stored in rooms with optimum temperature and humidity.

Thus, the creation of an electronic collection of rare books not only preserve the state of the valuable research material, and will further ensure its safety, but also expand the opportunities for scientific work.
