First Intergenerational Dialogue in Turkmenistan

In honor of the International Youth Day, which is annually celebrated on August 12, the first dialogue between generations was held in the Dashoguz velayat of Turkmenistan.

The dialogue connected young people with older people, facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences between them. Thus, the elderly shared their life experience with the volunteers, about how reading books, love and passion for work, their work shaped their life choices and fixed them in changing conditions. At the same time, young people spoke about their aspirations and intentions, seeking advice from the older generation.

It is very important for different generations to speak the same language and find contact, to know each other's interests, to support them. This allows you to remove barriers, learn new things and be a teacher for others, as well as continuously develop in a changing world. It should also be noted that the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals is impossible without intergenerational solidarity, which will help to realize the principle of “leaving no one behind”.

The intergenerational dialogue is also aimed at implementing the joint program “Youth Empowerment and Involvement of Youth in Mitigating the Health Threats of the Pandemic” of the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN. Funded by the UN Trust Fund for Human Security, it involves the development and implementation of public initiatives together with representatives of state and public structures in the Lebap and Dashoguz velayats.
