Turkmen weightlifters won 13 medals of various denominations at the ongoing 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in the Turkish city of Konya.

The last three medals on the final day of the weightlifting competition in the super heavy weight category over 109 kg were won by the master of sports of international class from Mary Khodzhamukhammet Toychiev. In the snatch (184 kg), 30-year-old trainee of the honored coach of Turkmenistan Ikram Matkarimov won silver, 3 kg ahead of the 2022 world junior champion in Heraklion (Greece) and the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires (Argentina) Alireza Yousefi from Iran, and two bronze medals in the clean and jerk (225 kg) and the combined total.

According to the results of two exercises, Kh. Toychiev gained 409 kg. This is 2 kg less than that of Iranian A. Yousefi, who took 2nd place (snatch - 181 kg, clean and jerk - 230 kg) and 22 kg worse than his best result shown at the Ashgabat V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, on which he took second place in the category over 105 kg. The winner of the V Games of Islamic Solidarity with three gold medals in the snatch (200 kg), clean and jerk (246 kg) and biathlon (446 kg) was the champion of last year's Olympic Games in Tokyo and the reigning world champion 2021 in the weight category up to 109 kg Akbar Juraev from Uzbekistan.

Recall that earlier from the Turkmen weightlifters at the V Islamiada in Turkey, Yulduz Dzhumabayeva (up to 49 kg) won three bronze medals, Kristina Shermetova (up to 55 kg) won gold in the snatch and two silver medals in the clean and jerk and biathlon, Gulnabat Kadyrova (up to 71 kg) with two gold and one bronze medal (in the clean and jerk), she became the champion with two records of the Islamic Solidarity Games in the snatch (107 kg) and biathlon (225 kg). The first is now also a new record for Turkmenistan, and the second is a repeat of the national achievement that she set at last year's World Championships in Tashkent.

Another medal was brought to the team of Turkmenistan by a 21-year-old student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Dovranbek Khasanbaev (up to 96 kg), having won a small silver medal in the snatch (165 kg). In the clean and jerk, Dovranbek showed the fifth result (183 kg) and as a result, with a total of 348 kg, he took fourth place, losing only 1 kg to the bronze medalist of the Games, Ali Alotman from Saudi Arabia.
