Every year on 19th of August, all photographers in the world - both amateurs and professionals - celebrate their personal holiday - World Photography Day. It was established in 2009.
The date of the holiday was chosen due to the fact that it was on this day in 1839 that the general public was presented with a method for obtaining a photo print - a daguerreotype, a prototype of a photograph.
Photography provides a person with a unique opportunity to preserve important events, interesting fragments of life, beautiful places, moments that will never happen again. Thanks to the pictures, people return to the past, remembering important moments of life again. And for many, photography is not a hobby, but a profession that allows you to give smiles.
Of course, photography occupies a special place in the lives of those who have chosen this occupation as their profession, because their work can rightly be called art. Thus, several years ago, the best masters of photography in Turkmenistan organized the “Ferula”photo club in Ashgabat. The association got its name from a plant that can be found in the Garagum desert. This amazing creation of nature does not have flowers and leaves - they are replaced by growths in the form of a bowl, in which dew accumulates overnight. Both animals and travelers can quench their thirst with this moisture and replenish their strength. So the club, according to its leader, an honorary member of the International Federation of Photographic Art FIAP, Vyacheslav Sarkisyan, helps talented photographers to quench their thirst for creativity and share wonderful works with the world.
Here is what Vyacheslav told the correspondent of the “Golden Age” about the latest news from the life of the photo club and plans for the future.
– In 2021, the works of professionals from the “Ferula” Photo Club participated in international exhibitions in China, Austria, the UAE, Russia and the USA. Also last year, photographers from Turkmenistan took part in the fifteenth FIAP World Club Championship for the first time. A total of 232 teams took part in the tournament. According to the results of the event, representatives of our country scored 305 credit points. This year the works of the representatives of our club could be seen by photo lovers from Russia, Austria, China, Georgia and the Czech Republic.
In September, on the eve of the Independence Day of Turkmenistan, the third international photo contest “Ferula 2022” will be announced, the results of which will be summed up by 12th of December. Photographers from more than 50 countries took part in last year's competition, and we hope that this number will increase even more.
