11 medals - three gold, five silver and three bronze - were won by representatives of Turkmenistan at the 4th Central Asian Open Championship in Athletics, which ended in Samarkand. It was organized by the Ministry of Sports Development, the National Olympic Committee and the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan with the support of the Central Asian Athletics Association and Uzbekneftegaz JSC.

More than 300 athletes took part in the competitions, which competed for 56 sets of awards in 41 track and field disciplines within two days.

Gold in the team of Turkmenistan was won by Valentina Meredova in the 100 meters (12.12 seconds), Mergen Mamedov in the hammer throw (69.10 m) and Maksat Mammedov in the shot put (16.08 m). It is noteworthy that the latter became the owner of another medal - silver - in discus throwing (52.41 m).

In addition to him, two silver medals were won by the men's and women's teams in the 4x100 meters and 4x400 meters relay races. In the first relay, the men showed the time - 42.70 seconds, and in the second - 3 minutes 19.92 seconds. The results of women, respectively, are 49.23 seconds and 4 minutes 05.60 seconds.

Bronze medals were awarded to Jennet Mukhamova in the javelin throw (49.89 m), Alisher Sadullayev in the 100-meter run (10.80 seconds) and Bagrat Gasanbekov in the long jump (7.60 m).
