International Olympiad on SDGs: 2 out of 3 possible wins for Turkmen students

Two wins out of three possible - this is the result of the participation of students from Turkmenistan in the annual International Student Olympiad on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Following the results of the regional (final) stage of the Olympiad, the winners were announced: Yaran Khudaiberdyev (Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov) and Serdar Rakhimov (Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan).

The Olympiad was held in 3 sections:

- Integrated water resources and landscape management (SDG 6);

- Climate Change and Clean Energy (SDGs 7 and 13);

- Industrialization, Innovation, Infrastructure and Sustainability of Cities and Human Settlements (SDGs 9 and 11);

Under the terms of the Olympiad, participants had to present a ready-made eco-business project on the topic of one of the three sections for the competition. For each section, the jury determined only one winner - these are the rules of the Olympiad. A student of the TSAU named after S.A. Niyazov, Yaran Khudaiberdyev, won the victory by speaking in the first section with a work on the topic: “Secondary benefits of water”. Serdar Rakhimov, a student of the IMO of the country's Foreign Ministry, who presented a project on the theme "Production and sale of eco-ware", was named the winner in section No. 2. We add that the third winner of the Olympiad was a student from Afghanistan.

The projects of the winners will be presented at the International Business Forum, which will be held in the capital of Thailand - Bangkok in January 2023.

The International Student Olympiad on Sustainable Development Goals is organized by the Kazakh-German University (DKU) in partnership with the Global Water Partnership, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Central Asia Youth for Water (CAY4W) organization (Almaty, Kazakhstan).

In general, about half a thousand students of higher educational institutions from Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan took part in the international review. The Olympiad was held online in Russian and English in two stages - national and regional.

The national stage, which took place in June of this year, was a test, in which the jury assessed the participants' knowledge of the SDGs. The students who scored high at this stage were given the task of compiling an eco-business project and then submitting its draft version to the jury.

Participants presented ready-made eco-business projects in the second, final stage, which became decisive and victorious for Turkmen students. Successful performance on the site of the Olympiad, according to our winners, is largely the merit of scientific supervisors who did a great job of preparing them, supported, helped, advised. It is worth emphasizing that the students of the TSAU named after S.A. Niyazov are leading in the section “Integrated Management of Water Resources and Landscape” of this Olympiad for the third year in a row.

Our winners express their sincere gratitude and gratitude to Archman Serdarov, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Agricultural Management, Myakhri Khodjamukhammedova, Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Auditing of the S.A. Niyazov TSAU, as well as Merdan Berdyniyazov, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of the IIR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

As part of the implementation of the 17 UN SDGs, multifaceted work is being carried out in the universities of Turkmenistan; high-quality and effective steps are being taken. Holding various SDG competitions encourages participants to demonstrate rapid growth in achieving them, effectively improve measures in this direction and provide organizers with clearer and more open evidence of their development.
