Presentation of the project of the 2017 Asian Games at the General Assembly of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union

The delegation of Turkmenistan including the representatives of the Executive Committee on the preparations for the 2017 Asian Games and the State Committee on Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, took part in the 53rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in Bali, Indonesia.

The working trip was taken in order to achieve the goals set by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to study the international experience in the media markets and sports journalism as well as to widen the advertising campaign to promote the 2017Asian Games and establish close partner relations in this sphere.

The forum brought together delegates from more than 200 television and radio broadcasting companies, ABU members and other media. The theme for this year's General Assembly was ”Media for the Future” and one of its sections was dedicated to the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held in Ashgabat next year.

In particular, the heads of the various ABU groups and commissions, presenting reports on their work, underlined the high level of preparations for the Asian Games in Turkmenistan. A number of TV and radio broadcasting companies, members of the organization expressed their readiness to broadcast live the Games in Ashgabat and put forward a number of other initiatives in this regard.


Speaking during the forum, the representatives of our country old about the key areas of implementation of the ambitious project of the 2017 Asian Games, including the organization of the media support at the Games.

The representatives of Asian and European companies were informed on the conditions conducive to the work of journalists and TV reporters, on measures taken to create the modern industrial and technological basis of the information support of the Asian Game and introduce the most advanced communication technologies in this sphere.

New techniques and broadcasting technologies were reviewed during the conferences, seminars and joint meetings of the ABU groups held within the framework of the ABU General Assembly. The sports group meeting focused on the new trends in covering major sports events.

In the framework of the sports group meeting, the Turkmen delegation held a presentation of the 2017 Asian Games, demonstrated a video clip and presented the detailed reports on the equipment of the Olympic facilities, the training of volunteers, as well as the preparation of bilingual dictionaries and phrase books, etc.

It was noted that the effective support of the President of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the 2017 Asian Games Organizing Committee Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov allowed solving all the issues related to the Games. Moreover, on the initiative of the Turkmen leader, the personnel and all the facilities in the Olympic Village, which already hosted a number of international tournaments, work in the test run mode.

Foreign journalists emphasized that it was a great idea to organize the horse marathon, which was launched 500 days before the opening of the V Asian Games.

In general, it was noted that the tremendous work had been done, including in the legal sphere, since the time when Turkmenistan - the first country in Central Asia - was delegated the right to host the Asian Games.

For example, the Laws of Turkmenistan "On physical culture and sports", "On professional sports" and "On volunteering" were adopted. The fundamental documents include the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan on attracting foreign experts to work in the sports sphere.

Ashgabat hosted several international sports media forums, which provided a platform to the wide popularization of the historical reforms and glorious achievements of Turkmenistan in strengthening the material and technical base of the sports sphere.

The forum participants also put emphasis on the historical significance of the document signed by the Oceania National Olympic Committees and the Olympic Council of Asia in Ashgabat. According to the document, the countries of Oceania will participate in the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games for the first time in the history of the games.

The members of the Turkmen delegation had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Javad Mottaghi and took part in other events organized in the framework of the forum.

Moreover, the Bulletin of the 53rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union presented the information about the 2017Asian Games. The publication, which describes Ashgabat is ‘a pearl of Asia’, tells that the upcoming Ashgabat Games are expected to bring together a record number of participants - over 5,000 athletes from 62 countries will compete for the medals in 21 sports. About 2,500 coaches and more than 10,000 foreign specialists will arrive in Turkmenistan to participate in the Asian Games. 10,000 volunteers will serve the 2017 Asian Games in Ashgabat. It is assumed that the Games will bring together up to 200,000 fans from different countries.

Particular attention in the publication is paid to the Olympic Village, that includes more than 30 facilities and the central stadium designed for 45,000 spectators, which arena will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games to be held under motto "Health. Inspiration. Friendship".
