Youth is the main engine in achieving the 2030 Agenda

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's membership in the United Nations, the UN Country Team organized a series of lectures for students of higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan.

Thematic sessions, which were held from September to November 2022, covered over a thousand students. In particular, students of the Turkmen State University named after Makhtumkuli, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seidi, the State Medical University of Turkmenistan named after Myrat Garryev, the Turkmen Agricultural Institute, the State Energy Institute Turkmenistan, Border Institute of Turkmenistan. They got acquainted with the goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the role of youth in achieving it.

Thematic sessions held by representatives of various UN Agencies - UNDP, UNFPA, WHO, UNODC, UNHCR also included issues in the field of climate change, digital technology development, quality education, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko called on young people to be active members of society and participate in the development of their country. Because young people have the knowledge and creativity needed to solve some of the most pressing problems facing the global community.
